Privacy policy
Applies to every part of Norwent · Last updated: 26 October 2026
This policy covers all Norwent parts: norwent.com (this front page), Norwent Academy (academy.norwent.com and the Android app), Norwent Math (math.norwent.com), Numbers Adventurers games (gams.norwent.com) together with the live class quiz (quiz.norwent.com), and Swedish Math with Norwent (swedenmath.norwent.com, coming soon). It describes what actually happens to your data today.
- No ads, no advertising or marketing trackers, and we never sell your data.
- You don't need an account. Most of your progress is stored only in your own browser.
- Some features cannot work without our server, so a limited amount of data is stored there: Premium codes (each code is tied to one device per part), shared Norwent Pass points, the training diary, language duels, community posts, the waitlist and anonymous visitor statistics.
- Below you can read exactly what is stored, why, and for how long, part by part.

1. Who is responsible
Norwent, Stockholm, Sweden, is the data controller for all parts listed above. Questions about your data: academy.norwent@gmail.com · +46 70 477 00 17.
2. What stays on your device
Your progress, XP, streak, level and test results, study plan, review list, chosen languages, settings, the name you type in an app, and your Premium status are saved in your browser's local storage (localStorage) on your device. This data is not sent to us — with the exceptions described in section 3 (for example, when you activate a Premium code).
You can delete it at any time by clearing the site data for the Norwent site in your browser settings. Note: if you clear it, progress that is only on the device is lost.
3. What is stored on our server, and why
| Data | What is stored | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
| Anonymous visitor statistics Academy, Math, Swedish Math | A random visitor ID created in your browser; date of your first and latest visit; country (looked up from your IP address on our own server — the IP address is not saved in the statistics); interface language; the language you study; whether you have entered a name (yes/no only — never the name itself); whether you have Premium; which part you visited. | To count visitors and understand which parts, languages and countries are used. | Old entries are removed automatically when the list grows. You can reset the ID by clearing site data. |
| Premium codes Academy, Math (Swedish Math later) | The code, which parts it unlocks and how long it is valid; for each part where it is activated: a random device ID and the date and time of activation; the name you have entered in the app (if any); a short device description such as “Android · Chrome”; the last time the app checked the code. | To deliver what you paid for, keep the rule “one device per part”, show you how many days are left, and help you if you change device or lose access. | As long as the code exists. You can ask us to delete it — then we can no longer restore your access. |
| Norwent Pass all parts that show points | A random player ID (also kept in the cookie nwgx, see section 6); XP per part, player level, coins, badges, chosen avatar and frame, progress in daily/weekly/monthly challenges, and your time zone. No name, no email, no IP address. | So the same points and challenges follow you between Norwent parts and devices. | As long as the player ID is used. Deleted on request. |
| Training diary Academy (training) | The workouts you log or finish: date, duration, exercises, sets, repetitions, weights and short notes — linked to your Norwent Pass player ID, not to a name. | So your diary is kept safe and synced between your devices. | Until you delete the workouts or ask us to delete them. |
| Language duels Academy | A temporary duel code, the name you type for the duel, the chosen game, the scores of both players, and the players' Norwent Pass IDs. | To run a live duel between two real players. | Removed automatically after about one day. |
| Community Academy | The display name you choose, your text posts and voice clips. | To show your posts to other learners. | Until you or we delete them. Posts are public inside the service. |
| Waitlist Academy | Your email address and interface language. | To tell you about the launch and your free Premium month. | Until the launch message is sent or you ask us to delete it. |
| Error reports Academy | When a page crashes: the error message, file and line, page name, interface and learning language, and the time. No personal data. | To find and fix bugs. | Only the latest 150 reports are kept. |
| Abuse protection all servers | Your IP address is used to limit too many requests. Some counters are stored together with the IP address for the current day. | Security — to stop spam, brute-force code guessing and overload. | Counters are reset every day; others exist only in memory. |
When you only check a code on norwent.com, the code is turned into a one-way hash (SHA-256) in your browser before it is sent; nothing is tied to your device and nothing is saved.
4. Part by part
norwent.com — the front page
Your language and light/dark choice are saved in your browser. To show the price in SEK or EUR, your country is looked up from your IP address (not stored). If you order Premium, the order form opens your own email or SMS app with a ready-made message; what you send us (for example your name, email or phone number and the parts you want) is used only to handle the order, take the payment and send you your code.
Norwent Academy — academy.norwent.com and the Android app
- Progress and settings on your device (section 2), anonymous visitor statistics, Premium codes, Norwent Pass, the training diary, language duels, community and waitlist (section 3).
- Cloud sync (optional): if you turn on sync ☁️ and sign in, your progress is stored in your account at Google Firebase (Authentication and Firestore) so you can restore it on other devices.
- Microphone and pronunciation: pronunciation scoring uses the speech recognition built into your browser (for example Google in Chrome or Apple in Safari); the browser provider may process the audio. We do not record or store your voice, unless you post a voice clip in the community yourself.
- Word audio: when you tap 🔊, only the word is sent to our server, which fetches the audio from Google Translate. No personal data is sent.
- Videos: embedded via youtube-nocookie.com (YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode); Google's policy applies when you play a video.
- Android app: the app opens the same website in Chrome (Trusted Web Activity), so the same rules apply. It asks for microphone access only when you use pronunciation practice.
Norwent Math — math.norwent.com
Progress, points and the name you type are saved in your browser. The site counts anonymous visitor statistics (marked as Math) and can show Norwent Pass points. When you activate a Premium code, the data listed under “Premium codes” in section 3 is stored — including the name you entered in Norwent Math and a short device description.
Numbers Adventurers games and the live class quiz
Games (gams.norwent.com): no sign-up and no account. Your progress is saved in your browser. The site is hosted by Vercel, which processes technical data such as your IP address to deliver the pages.
Live class quiz (quiz.norwent.com): the nickname you type, the country and question group you choose, and your answers and score are sent to the quiz server to run the round in real time and show the scoreboard to everyone in the room. Rooms are temporary. Please use a nickname or first name — never a full name or other personal details.
Swedish Math with Norwent — swedenmath.norwent.com
Coming soon. Today it is an information page; anonymous visitor statistics may be counted. When it opens, the same rules as for Norwent Math will apply, and this policy will be updated.
5. Service providers
- Hostinger (EU) — web hosting, database and content delivery for norwent.com, academy.norwent.com, math.norwent.com and quiz.norwent.com. Our server data is stored in a database there.
- MantleDB (mantledb.sh) — an external backup copy of server data (codes, statistics, community, waitlist and error reports), so nothing is lost if the main server fails.
- Vercel (USA) — hosting of the games site gams.norwent.com.
- Google — word audio (via our server), speech recognition in Chrome, Firebase (only if you turn on cloud sync) and YouTube (videos).
Some providers may process data outside the EU/EEA. In those cases the transfer relies on the safeguards the provider offers under the GDPR, such as the EU standard contractual clauses or the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
6. Cookies and local storage
We use one functional cookie: nwgx on .norwent.com, which holds your random Norwent Pass player ID so your points follow you between parts. In addition, the sites use your browser's local storage for progress and settings, and session storage for the country used to show prices. We use no advertising or analytics cookies, which is why there is no cookie banner.
7. Legal basis (GDPR)
- Contract: Premium codes and orders — to deliver what you bought.
- Legitimate interest: anonymous statistics, Norwent Pass, the training diary, duels, error reports, backups and abuse protection — to run, secure and improve the service.
- Consent: the waitlist, community posts, cloud sync and microphone use. You can withdraw your consent at any time.
8. Children
Norwent Math, the games and the class quiz are made for students in grades 1–9. No account and no email address are needed. Children under 13 should use the community, cloud sync and the waitlist only with a parent's or guardian's consent. In the class quiz, students should use nicknames. A parent or guardian can contact us at any time to have a child's data deleted.
9. Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct and delete your data, to restrict or object to processing, and to data portability. Email us and we will reply within 30 days. Because most data is linked only to a random ID or a code, tell us your Premium code (if you have one) and which part you use, so we can find your data. Data linked only to a random ID in your browser can also be removed by clearing the site data.
You can also complain to the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (IMY, imy.se) or to the data protection authority in your country.
10. Changes
We update this policy when the services change. The date of the latest update is shown at the top. Important changes are also announced on norwent.com.
